Halloween is swiftly approaching! Are you looking for quick, easy, and economical ideas for your Halloween party? Moi aussi, mes petits potirons!
I suppose you could say that I have too much free time on my hands, because I find myself in my spare time cutting out bats and spiders from construction paper for my walls and our Halloween tree. There is something very zen about cutting bits of paper or really, anytime you delve into making crafts from your childhood. My preschooler (Glue Stick and Googly Eye Expert) and I have had a great time working together on our decorations while listening to Halloween music.
While cutting items out I tried to think of a way to make something to hang up that would be not unlike this adorable paper pumpkin craft, but even simpler. (One of my favorite mottos is "Keep It Simple, Sweetie!") I love hanging up paper snowflakes during the holiday season, so I thought, what if we were to cut out Halloween images using the same technique?
The best pattern for these Spooky Snowflakes is still a work in progress. So far I've made no two exactly alike, and I've got many to cut before I sleep. I think these would work well as unusual doilies for your table's centerpiece, especially if you used paper that is larger than standard size. My plan is to vary their size, carefully iron them, add a touch or two of glitter, and hang them from the ceiling using some monofilament.
Since starting this project I have found this website which has some great printable templates. This is where the paper bats that you see in purple have come from. Although my version has ended up looking a little like Pikachu, I am happy with the result. I still have some doilies to work on!
